Discover Pyeongidambaek in Seogyo-dong, Seoul, famous for bone kalguksu and boiled pork. A great local Korean food spot near Hongdae and Hapjeong.

If you are looking for a comforting Korean meal in Seoul that feels local, hearty, and a little different from the usual tourist picks, Pyeongidambaek Bone Noodle Soup in Seogyo-dong is a great place to try. This restaurant is especially known for its signature bone noodle soup and boiled pork slices, and the original branch in Seogyo-dong is the one many visitors want to experience first.
Located near the Hongdae, Hapjeong, and Mangwon area, this restaurant is easy to add to a day of exploring one of Seoul’s most popular neighborhoods. It offers a style of Korean comfort food that feels rich and satisfying, but still clean and approachable for first-time visitors.
What makes this place special
The most interesting thing about this restaurant is its signature dish, bone kalguksu. Kalguksu is a traditional Korean knife-cut noodle soup, but here it is combined with a deep bone broth, creating something that feels both familiar and unique.

First, take a spoonful of the broth. Its flavor is incredibly rich and leaves a strong first impression. In fact, it is so intense that you might even wonder if it is slightly salty at first.
Then try the noodles, and you will notice how pleasantly chewy they are and how well they have absorbed the flavor of the broth.
The bowl also comes with two large pieces of bone-in meat, each packed with plenty of tender meat. If you want an extra piece, you can usually request one when ordering for about 3,000 won.
The small bowl of sauce with garlic and chili oil is meant for dipping the meat.
For travelers, this makes it a memorable food experience because it brings together two sides of Korean cuisine in one bowl: the warmth of a noodle soup and the depth of a slow-cooked meat broth. It is filling, flavorful, and very satisfying, especially on a cool day.
Bone Kalguksu: the must-try dish
The star of the menu is the bone kalguksu. The broth is the main attraction. It has a deep, slow-simmered taste, but compared with heavier Korean pork bone soups, this version feels cleaner and more balanced. That is also what the restaurant name suggests: something mild, calm, and delicately seasoned rather than overly strong.

The noodles add a comforting texture, and the soup as a whole feels like the kind of meal that many locals would crave when they want something warm and nourishing.
If you enjoy spicy food, the spicy version can also be a good option, but first-time visitors may want to start with the original bowl.

Editor’s Tip (check this sign on the wall)
“Eolkeun” on the menu means the spicy version.
If you order the spicy menu, make sure to mix in all the seasoning paste.
That is the best way to enjoy the full flavor.
But I am not very good with spicy food, so I could not bring myself to order it. LOL
Why the boiled pork is worth ordering too
If you are dining with another person, the boiled pork is highly recommended. In Korea, this style of pork is often enjoyed as a shared dish, and it pairs very well with soup-based meals.

At this restaurant, the boiled pork adds a second layer to the meal. The noodle soup is warm and comforting, while the pork gives you something rich, tender, and satisfying to share. Together, they create a more complete Korean dining experience.

The boiled pork here reminds me of dombegogi, the famous sliced pork dish from Jeju Island. It is surprisingly moist, tender, and deeply satisfying.
It is the kind of boiled pork that makes you stop and think, how can it be this juicy and delicious?
The best way to enjoy it is to take one slice, lightly dip it in salted shrimp sauce, add a piece of radish kimchi on top, and eat it in one bite.
For travelers, this is a nice way to enjoy a table that feels more generous and more local, rather than simply ordering one bowl per person and moving on. If you want to experience Korean comfort food beyond the basics, this combination works very well.
A good stop while exploring western Seoul
One reason this restaurant is especially appealing for tourists is its location. Seogyo-dong is part of one of the most vibrant areas in Seoul, close to neighborhoods popular for cafes, shopping, nightlife, and street culture.
That means this restaurant fits easily into a travel plan. You can stop by for lunch or dinner while exploring Hongdae or Hapjeong, and it feels like a more grounded, local meal compared with trend-driven cafes or street snacks.
For visitors who want to balance sightseeing with real everyday Korean food, this is a strong choice.

This place is easiest to reach on foot from Mangwon Station. Mangnidan-gil is about a 10-minute walk away, Mecenatpolis Mall near Hapjeong Station is only around 4 minutes away on foot, and Hongdae Entrance is about 15 minutes away, so it is a great spot if you want to take a walk and explore the neighborhood after your meal.
I usually head toward Yeonnam-dong or the Hongdae area rather than staying in Mangwon-dong. I like to grab a coffee there or look for a new dessert shop to try.
Recommended order for first-time visitors
If this is your first visit, these are the easiest ways to order:
- Solo traveler: one bowl of bone kalguksu
- Two people: two bowls of bone kalguksu and one shared boiled pork dish
- Spice lovers: try the spicy bone kalguksu instead of the original
If you are new to Korean food, the original version is probably the safest and most enjoyable place to begin.
Final thoughts
Pyeongidambaek Bone Noodle Soup in Seogyo-dong is a great restaurant for travelers who want to try Korean comfort food in a neighborhood that is already popular with visitors. The bone kalguksu is the main reason to go, offering a rich but balanced broth with satisfying noodles, while the boiled pork makes the meal feel fuller and more special.
If you are spending time around Hongdae and want something warm, local, and memorable, this is a very good place to add to your Seoul food list.
